DataCity

DataCity is an innovation program that combines the entrepreneurial drive of startups with the experience and technical expertise of established companies to solve challenges that arise in an urban context. Together with city authorities we identify challenges that aim to make cities more sustainable and liveable. We connect innovators across a diverse group of stakeholders and support the innovation-process from challenge-definition to the selection of relevant startups and the presentation of working prototypes.
Our areas of focus include mobility, logistics, housing, smart buildings, energy, e-Governance and public security as well as water- and waste management solutions. Working with the C40 alliance we are fostering technology-driven collaboration, striving to enable the cities of tomorrow.

Define

DataCity will start with an initial phase of exploration of viable projects during which we facilitate the exchange between DataCity corporate partners and the city of Berlin. Being ambitious, but with available resources in mind we will identify the main challenges to be worked on during the program.

Each challenge will have the potential to produce a working prototype within the program timeline and a viable business model that brings value to the city, the startup and the corporate partners during and after the program.

Select

Through an international call for applications we will reach out to innovative startups that are active in areas related to Smart City technologies.

During a sourcing-phase and a multi-step selection process that involves our corporate sponsors and participating city agencies we will identify the most relevant startups to work on DataCity challenges.

Selected startups can present their approach to the program partners and will be matched to challenges that most closely fit their technology and skill-set.

Create, Measure & Demo Day

Selected startups will be provided resources, expert mentorship and experimentation fields by corporate sponsors and the city agencies to develop working prototypes.

Together with the program partners they will develop and test their solutions in a real-world scenario. If needed, NUMA can provide additional mentorship and expertise in startup acceleration and user-centric design, as well as support from software developers, data scientists, IoT experts and UX designers.

Following the experimentation we will measure the impact of the developed solutions and share the results during an international Demo Day that will involve all DataCity program partners and the larger public.

Scale

NUMA in collaboration with C40 will disseminate the results of DataCity through its global network, paving the road for international scaling and adaptation of the most promising solutions.
